For the last 50 years—prior to the fire, Steppingstone was serving more than 2,500 children annually through hands-on school programs and heritage tours supporting our mission to preserve and interpret Harford County’s farming history.
We also once held a nationally significant collection, so substantial that we worked with the Smithsonian Institution, donating duplicate agricultural artifacts to support their research and exhibitions.
Keeping that level of impact and legacy alive—while rebuilding from crisis—costs nearly $10,000 each month just to keep the lights on, the grounds safe, and the gates open.
We’ve launched a year-long campaign called Back to the Farm to raise the critical operational support needed to keep Steppingstone open through June 2026. This isn’t a campaign to rebuild our Display Barn—yet. This is about basic survival: paying staff, keeping the lights on, and welcoming the public back to the land and legacy we love.
Your donation today will help us:
-
Open our gates to visitors every weekend
-
Rebuild our volunteer program and staff team
-
Offer hands-on heritage programs for school groups and families
-
Care for our historic grounds, animals, and collections
We cannot do it without you.
Please consider making a meaningful gift to help Steppingstone take root again after a year of loss. Your support is what keeps the farm alive—one day, one program, one season at a time. Together, we can make this year not just a return, but a renewal.
