Museum Hours: 9 am-Sunset every day- enjoy the grounds, picnic, and self guided tour

School and Private Tours: Tue- Fri, April - October (one group per day, see calendar below for availability)

Artisan Demonstration Hours: Saturdays and Sundays 1-4 pm, May through September

Join us every day at 'Your Country Retreat" and Harford County's Farm Museum! Seasonal weekends feature tours of the Historic Farm House, demonstrations of historical trades and folk arts and hands-on activities for children and families! Become a member for free admission every weekend, pack a picnic lunch and enjoy a real step into the past and the beautiful Susquehanna State Park. Regular admission is $5 for adults and free for children 12 and under and members. *Hours and admission vary on special event weekends* You can also stop in the museum store to shop or purchase advance event tickets during weekend hours.

2014 Calendar of Events

Steppin' Through Time Dance at the Studio at Steppingstone

Try something new or join us as an experienced dancer, no partner required to try these fun social dances as seen in historic film and appropriate to celebrate the bicentennial and susquecentennial alike! The Studio is in the building at the far end of the parking lot and is climate controlled. Please bring soft soled shoes for the dance floor.

Victorian Dancing- The dance of the Civil War era, monthly on the 2nd Tuesday from 6-8pm at the Studio

English Country Dancing- The dance of Jane Austen's time, monthly on the 4th Tuesday from 6-8pm at the Studio


October 26th (Sunday)- Tales and Treats with Heritage Museums of Havre de Grace- 6pm to 9pm, Admission $1

Head into the Halloween night for special Tales and Treats at all of the Heritage Museums of Havre de Grace! Special programs, storytelling, and treats at the Concord Point Light House and Keeper's House, the Havre de Grace Maritime Museum, Steppingstone Farm Museum, and the Susquehanna Museum at the Lock House, find the spooky side of history with each of our museums! Steppingstone will feature ghostly tales in story and song in the barn and a campfire with hot cider and smores for a fun hallows treat!


November 2nd (Sunday)- Witchy Woman Tea- 11am and 2pm seatings, Admission $25.00

Learn about the history of Halloween and Witchcraft while enjoying afternoon tea in the Historic Farm House for a refined Halloween celebration. Join us at the lovely Steppingstone Farm House for an afternoon Tea featuring Professional Storyteller and Historic Reenactor Alisa Dupuy. As this is a performance, doors will close promptly at starting time to not interrupt the program.

Tickets are $25, which includes your Afternoon Tea, the Performance, an exciting glimpse of the past, and a donation to the museum.

*Seats are limited due to the size of the historic home, we will make every effort to seat groups together but tables are limited to 4-6 each so you may be seated with another party. The teas require attention for an hour and proper table manners and thus are not suitable for children under the age of 8 years. Your paypal confirmation is your receipt and places you on our seating list. We will contact you if we need clarification on your order or group size for seating purposes. November 22nd (Saturday)- Thanksgiving Open House with Open Hearth Cooking- 1pm to 4pm, Admission $5.00

November 11th- Artisans Raffle at the Annual Dinner and Volunteer Recognition- 6pm

Join us for Steppingstone's Annual Dinner and Volunteer Recognition. We will have a special speaker presentation along with the fellowship of our members and volunteers. We will also hold our annual business meeting, volunteer recognitions, and the drawing for the Artisan's Raffle. Join us for a Victorian Street Faire especially for the Holidays! Steppingstone comes alive with the warmth and bustle of a Dickens Christmas with food vendors, local high quality handcrafts, live music and performances, and fun for the whole family!

December 6th & 7th (Saturday and Sunday)- Christmas Open House- 11am to 4pm

This event will feature tours of the historic farmhouse decorated for the holidays;  Christmas music; cookies and cider; museum store open for shopping.  No admission charge for this event. December 6th and 7th (Saturday and Sunday)- "A Christmas Carol" Tea- 4pm seating each day, Admission $25.00

Catch the spirit of the holidays early as Dickens comes to life with "A Christmas Carol" as told by Ebenezer Scrooge's sister, Fan.

June 21st (Saturday)- Steppingstone Summertime Blues Festival- 2pm to 8pm

Admission $25 in advance and $30 at the gate, Walk-ins are welcome!

The setting for this festival is our beautiful orchard overlooking the Susquehanna River.  Our visitors may enjoy beer, wine, and food while listening to some of the best entertainment in the area. Visit the Blues Fest link for the 2014 lineup and presale tickets.  This is an outdoor concert, rain or shine, with no refunds granted.  Bring a blanket or lawn chair but please do not bring in alcoholic beverages or glass containers. Remember sunscreen and your Photo ID to purchase beer or wine. Credit available, cash recommended to avoid lines. Presales end Fri June 20th at 5pm so staff can finish setting up event.

June 29th (Sunday)- postponed- Picnic in the Park with Laurrapin Grill- 11am to 4pm

Advance purchase only! Admission with Picnic lunch $30 adults and $12 for kids 12 and under

Enjoy live music and a fabulous picnic lunch from Laurrapin in the beautiful orchard overlooking the Susquehanna River.  Our visitors may enjoy a laid back picnic in the park with great food, beer, wine, and music by the Fiddle Oaks and the Roger Girke Trio.

This is an outdoor concert, rain or shine, with no refunds granted.  Bring a blanket or lawn chair but please do not bring in food, drink, alcoholic beverages or glass containers. May 3rd and 4th (Saturday and Sunday)- Opening Weekend- 1pm to 4pm, Admission $5.00 for adults, children 12 & under and members free

This weekend will feature the reopening of the shops with Artisan Demonstrations for the season, farm tours, and special activities as part of the War of 1812 Commemoration weekend. Steppingstone will host the Grace Under Fire Ball, and Regency Ladies teas as part of the activities by the Heritage Museums of Havre de Grace for the commemoration of the British attack on Havre de Grace on May 3rd, 1813.


May 3rd (Saturday)- Grace Under Fire Regency Ball- Dinner 5-7pm, Ball 7pm to 11pm, Cancelled- to be held again in 2015

Steppingstone Farm Museum will host the Grace Under Fire Ball as part of the activities by the Heritage Museums of Havre de Grace for the commemoration of the British attack on Havre de Grace on May 3rd, 1813. Follow the link for full description and ticket orders.


May 4th (Sunday)- A Regency Ladies Tea- 4pm seating, Admission $25.00

Step back in time to the Federalist or Regncy era, learn about Jane Austen, Dolly Madison, and other famous ladies of the era and heroines of the War of 1812, America's second war for independence. Join us at the lovely Steppingstone Farm House for a Regency Ladies Tea featuring Professional Storyteller and Historic Reenactor Alisa Dupuy. As this is a performance, doors will close promptly at starting time to not interrupt the program.

May 10th and 11th (Saturday and Sunday)- Medieval Days Encampment- 11am to 4pm, Admission $10.00 for adults, children 12 & under and members free

This event will feature a medieval encampment with fighting and archery demonstrations; siege weapons; equestrian games; coursing of the hounds; arts and crafts; historic music and poetry; children’s crafts; food; and farm tours.


May 10th (Saturday)- Medieval Mother's Day Tea with the Baroness- 4pm seating, Admission $25.00

This formal tea is a lovely treat for Mom, price includes tea with modern and medieval treats, a medieval through renaissance fashion show with historic music, and your admission to the Medieval Days event beforehand. As this is a performance, doors will close promptly at starting time to not interrupt the program.

May 24th and 25th (Saturday and Sunday)- Civil War Encampment- 11am to 4pm, Admission $10.00 for adults, children 12 & under and members free

The Civil War Encampment returns to Steppingstone this year to commemorate the sesquicentennial. Come out to the museum for this relaxed living history event to explore civil war camp life and the historic trades shared at Steppingstone.

Reenactors will display camp life in the civil war era and re-enact battle skirmishes. Reenactor Registration.

May 24th (Saturday)- Civil War Barn Dance- Dance 7pm to 11pm

Steppingstone Farm Museum will host a Civil War Barn Dance as part of the of the Civil War Weekend, an excellent way to celebrate Memorial Day in style! Featuring music by Kaydence with dance instruction by Callers Tom and Lesley Mack of Luray, Virginia.

The Barn Dance this year is a fundraiser for the Carriage Barn renovation and “A Carriage Through Time” exhibit at Steppingstone Farm Museum. Lodging available in Havre de Grace, nearby Aberdeen, cabins or camping in Susquehanna State Park.
Dances will be walked through; reenactors are experienced civil war era dancers. Experienced Victorian Dancers are welcome. Dress is Victorian military or civilian or modern formal/ black tie. Soft-soled shoes only for the wood floor, no heel plates, swords, or firearms.
All dances will be appropriate to 1860-1865, Step back in time with us!
Limited tickets are available, registrations accepted in the order received. Email confirmation will be sent the week before the ball and name tag and booklet will be held at the door. If you cancel your registration and/or dinner reservation on or before May 20th we will refund all but $10 of your registration. No refunds after May 20th.

At this tea you can mingle with civil war ladies and learn about manners, society, and hear tales of some famous women of the Civil War. Our annual celebration of Celtic Heritage, wear your green or tartan and come out to the museum for music, food, dancing and more!

Music: Pipe Bands, Feature artist Heather Dale, Music by Kaydence, Carl Peterson Scottish Singer-Songwriter, and the Harford Highlanders Pipe Band!

Dance: Irish Step dancing by Tir na nOg and the International Academy of Dance

July 5th (Saturday)- Havre de Grace 4th of July Parade- Come on out to downtown Havre de Grace and see Steppingstone's Float in the parade, then join us the next day for Summer Fun Day!


July 6th (Sunday)- Summer Fun Day w/Lawnmower Races & Classy Car & Cycle Show with Antique Tractors- 11am to 4pm, Admission $10.00 for adults, children 12 & under and members free

This event will feature all things wheels! Enjoy a great family fun day with music; lawnmower racing; a car and motorcycle show; ice cream eating contest; face painting; kids crafts and games; food; and museum displays.  Fun for the whole family!

Collectors/ Restorers- plan to bring your classy car or cycle or antique tractor for the show!

Kids- Bring your bike or skates for the bike parade, come decorated or visit our decorating station to get ready for the parade!

Dance to the Oldies or enjoy an old fashioned soda at "The Hop" soda fountain!


September 27th & 28th (Saturday and Sunday)- Fall Harvest & Craft Festival - 11am to 4pm, Admission $10.00 for adults, children 12 & under and members free

This event will feature activities such as craft booths; scarecrow making; pumpkin painting; apple bobbing & pressing; apple butter making; hay rides; straw maze; petting zoo; Punch & Judy and magic shows; bluegrass and traditional music; food; and tours. The museum will be selling mums, apples, pumpkins, kettle corn, apple butter and more for your fall decorating and munching needs! Rain or shine event. Additional fees only for items you take home (scarecrows and pumpkins). All proceeds benefit the nonprofit Steppingstone Museum Association for support of educational programs and care of historic buildings and collections.

October 17th (Friday)- Steppingstein (a refined Octoberfest celebration)- 6pm to 9pm, Admission by advance reservation only $30 regular, $40 VIP entry at 5pm

Join us for this special evening celebration of history and good taste. Enjoy a catered German meal by Prost German Restaurant, local German style beer from Gunpowder Fall Brewing Company and wine tasting, live music and plenty of polka dancing (with instruction included) while learning about the historic origins of this traditional celebration. VIP admission is an hour earlier with private polka lessons and a special presentation on the history of Octoberfest! We invite you to wear your leiderhosen or dirndl if they are historical and in good taste. Or wear your regency/federal era fashions in keeping with the first Oktoberfest!

Tickets are by reservation only- available at the link below, please select your ticket type and dinner choice.

Dinner options are as follows:

A traditional German Bratwurst, spicy or mild, served with homemade German potato salad and sauerkraut

or

Wiener Schnitzel (breaded pork loin fried until golden brown) with homemade German potato salad

Authentic Bavarian soft pretzels, Brezen, for sale that evening. We will also have desserts available through the Cake Walk and tickets for our annual Artisan Raffle as part of this museum fundraising event. Come out for a taste of history and a great date night!
